چکیده
Bare root transplants of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch. cv. ‘Selva’) were transferred to nutrient solutions with or without iron (Fe). After six weeks of growth, plants in the solution without Fe were chlorotic and had morphological changes in roots typical of Fe deficiency. At this point, four treatments were imposed with three replicates (plants) each: plants always grown without Fe (Fe0); always grown with 10 M Fe (Fe10); chlorotic plants with leaves treated with ferrous sulphate every two days (Fe-leaves); chlorotic plants transferred to a solution with ferrous sulphate (Fe-solution). These plants were grown for nine days through which period chlorophyll (Chl) in leaves was estimated with a SPAD-502 apparatus. At the beginning and end of the experiment, root ferric chelate reductase (FC-R; EC 1.16.1.17) activity *Manuscript Click here to view linked References

Overexpression of the FRO2 ferric chelate reductase confers tolerance to growth on low iron and uncovers posttranscriptional control.
The Arabidopsis FRO2 gene encodes the low-iron-inducible ferric chelate reductase responsible for reduction of iron at the root surface. Here, we report that FRO2 and IRT1, the major transporter responsible for high-affinity iron uptake from the soil, are coordinately regulated at both the transcriptional and posttranscriptional levels. FRO2 and IRT1 are induced together following the impositio...
متن کاملChanges induced by Fe deficiency and Fe resupply in the organic acid metabolism of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) leaves.
The effects of iron deficiency and iron resupply on the metabolism of leaf organic acids have been investigated in hydroponically grown sugar beet. Organic acid concentrations and activities in leaf extracts of several enzymes related to organic acid metabolism were measured. Enzymes assayed included phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase (PEPC; EC 4.1.1.31), different Krebs cycle enzymes: malate deh...

Silicon (Si) nutrition may alleviate biotic and abiotic stresses including heavy metal deficiency and toxicity in plants. Iron deficiency and toxicity are important limiting factors in growth of rice. In the present study, role of Si nutrition on alleviation of iron deficiency and toxicity was investigated in rice plants. Plants were cultivated in greenhouse in hydroponics, using Yoshida soluti...
متن کاملCloning two genes for nicotianamine aminotransferase, a critical enzyme in iron acquisition (Strategy II) in graminaceous plants.
Nicotianamine aminotransferase (NAAT), the key enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of mugineic acid family phytosiderophores (MAs), catalyzes the amino transfer of nicotianamine (NA). MAs are found only in graminaceous plants, although NA has been detected in every plant so far investigated. Therefore, this amino transfer reaction is the first step in the unique biosynthesis of MAs that has evo...
متن کاملMetabolite Profile Changes in Xylem Sap and Leaf Extracts of Strategy I Plants in Response to Iron Deficiency and Resupply
The metabolite profile changes induced by Fe deficiency in leaves and xylem sap of several Strategy I plant species have been characterized. We have confirmed that Fe deficiency causes consistent changes both in the xylem sap and leaf metabolite profiles. The main changes in the xylem sap metabolite profile in response to Fe deficiency include consistent decreases in amino acids, N-related meta...
